Blade Runner Party '08!

Each of us are holding up a disc from the Blade Runner Final Cut dvd briefcase collector's edition or a toy from it. Left to right: Earl, Me, Stu, Jana, Kevin, John and Paris.
The Day I got the Blade Runner Final Cut 5 disc collector briefcase was the happiest day in my life. It came with EVERYTHING a Blade Runner geek, like myself, could ever ask for and more. With such a prize possession I HAD to have a party to celebrate. I sent out emails to all my fellow Blade Runner nerds, to places as far out past the shoulder of Orion, but my measly 24" screen simply wouldn't cut it. My friend Jana was gracious enough to host the fan-fest with her 50" hd flat screen with surround sound. My friend Stu provided the Ps3 player to view it in Blue Ray and my other friend Jon provided the know how to hook it all up. The night came together like the perfect genetics of a Nexus 6 replicant. We even had a Blade Runner Virgin. My friend Earl had never seen the movie, and when it was over we bombarded him with questions, asking if he thought Deckard was a replicant, the Unicorn Scene and so forth. It was such a good time it was decided to make it a yearly event. See you at Blade Runner Party '09!

I was on The Dork Forest radio show on 2-7-2008 talking about how great the Blade Runner 5 disc set is! I start talking about it at 15:14 minutes.
Funny how their radio show logo looks alot like the Ladd Company logo at the begining of Blade Runner.

My Blade Runner Final cut Review... from my blog 8-7-2007
I saw Blade Runner: the Final Cut tonight! It was AWESOME! Everything I wanted them to fix they did. They CGI'd out the wires holding up the flying cars, the dove flying away is now at night not blue sky, and (HUGE surprise to me) they cgi'd deckard's and ben abdul hasan's (the snake maker) lips to match the voice overs. A flopped image of Roy Batty in Tyrell's home to make it look like he's in the phone booth was fixed and actually put him in the phone booth. Fantastic! They extended ALL the violence. Every gorey scene is now two shots longer and more horrific. Right from the opening scene it was great. They cleaned it up so its crystal clear and even enhanced the cityscapes giving more futuristic buildings and greater depth. The audio is enhanced as well. I noticed it the most during the first scene with Leon getting tested, a new heartbeat and prickling sounds to enhance the tension.
I know the movie so well I knew every time they extended a shot even for just two seconds more. There were a couple great crane shots over the crowd, one after deckard leaves the scale scanner lady and a very long dolly shot of Deckard walking into the Bradbury apt. Aside from all of those theres a hundred LITTLE details they added like cars in the WAY distant sky or on the street far below moving - even in scenes where they are in the corner and away from the action. They kept the tradition of what made this such a great movie and that's the DETAILS.
I love this movie so much. Such great everything: writing, directing, acting, lighting, cinematagraphy, special effects. It's a movie you can keep finding new meaning in and go as deep as you want with the metaphors. It incorporates: destroying religion, pariside, homosexuality, necrphelia, incest, genetic morality, societal decay, and on and on.
Is Deckard a replicant? This version goes the extra step to say yes he is, but I always take it a "nerd further" and add symbolism to the scene where he Kills Zhora sending her through a crashing window display; it's snowing over him and her body - symbolizing Dante's inferno and the frozen 9th circle of betrayl, Deckard has killed his own.
I don't even want to watch the version I have now anymore. I CAN'T WAIT to get this new version on dvd and watch it a zillion more times. I'm even thinking of seeing it a couple more times on the big screen.
